5 Things to do in Pokhara

A thirty minute drive from Hotel Annapurna View, Sarangkot, Pokhara city is abundant of majestic landmarks, religious sites, museums and chic cafes and restaurants. Pokhara has something to offer for everyone. Here’s a list of the top five things, one should make a point of doing during your visit to this vibrant city.

Visit majestic shrines

Pokhara city is also dotted with numerous religious sites, the Bindabasini, Tal Barahi, and the World Peace Stupa being the most prominent ones. The World Peace Stupa or the Shanti Stupa is a majestic white stupa located atop the Raniban hill, which is on the opposite side from Pokhara lakeside. Though the site is accessible to automobiles, many visitors enjoy taking a thirty minute hike to reach the shrine.

Explore the caves

Although small, Pokhara is home to two of Nepal’s most popular natural caves: the Mahendra Gufa and the Bat Cave. The dark, spooky bat cave the abode of hundreds of horseshoe bats, whose chirping sound spreads through the tunnel. Named in honour of the former king Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev, the cave was discovered in late 1950 by the young shepherds of Pokhara. The passageways of the dark cave are continuously dripping with water, and being a limestone cave, the stones also fall on the ground to form electric sparks.

Tour the museums

Pokhara is home to various museums. It houses one of the most beautiful museums in Nepal, 'International Mountain Museum'. International mountain museum gives you the opportunity to see historical documents, records and chronicles of mountaineering. Besides International Mountain Museum, you can also visit Gurkha Museum. Gurkha Museum was established in 2005 in order to commemorate the death of hardworking Gurkha soldiers. The Gurkha army is known for its hard training and bravery. The museum shows many interesting stories, photos, uniforms and medals which can be found at Pardi. There are also other interesting museums such as Pokhara museum where you can see ethnic mosaic, history and lifestyles of the diverse cultures in Ethnic Nepal and Annapurna Regional Museum that shows a large collection of butterflies, insects, birds and wildlife living in the Annapurna area.

Visit the enchanting Davis Falls

Davis falls also known as Devi's Falls is a waterfall located at Pokhara. It is a popular attraction for tourists and locals. Thousands of Nepalis visit this site for recreation and enjoyment. At Davis Falls, you can try your luck by throwing and placing the coin on the statue of God constructed on the Luck pond. The water forms an underground tunnel after reaching the bottom. The tunnel is about 500 feet long and runs 100 feet below ground level.

Stroll about the Lakeside promenade

Pokhara city’s resort enclave, Lakeside is home to numerous restaurants, Cafe, stores and nightclubs. Not to mention, all the outlets in this street overlook the calm waters of the Phewa Tal. In addition to walking, one may also wander through the lakefront by renting a cycle, or view the area by renting a boat. One can easily take a thirty-minute cab ride from Sarangkot to reach this bustling locale. It is the go-to destination for guests wishing to get an urbane vibe for a change.
